In short

A psychiatric evaluation at Counseling Services for Wellbeing is the first deep assessment a Seattle-area adult has before any treatment plan, a real conversation about your history, sleep, daily life and what brought you in, so a provider understands the whole picture before anyone talks about medication. We accept most major insurance plans, book same-week appointments and see clients at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video statewide.

Does this sound familiar?

You want someone to actually understand what is going on, not run down a checklist.

You have been carrying something for a while now. Maybe you have wondered whether there is a name for it, or whether what you feel is just who you are. You have read enough to have a guess and enough to second-guess yourself. What you want is a real answer from someone who took the time to listen, not a label handed down in the first ten minutes.

You may be bracing a little. You have heard the stories, fifteen minutes, a few quick questions, a prescription before anyone knows your name. You are not even sure medication is the answer, and you do not want to be pushed toward one before someone understands the whole picture. You want a provider who asks about your history, your sleep, your body and the life around all of it, and who treats the first appointment as the place to actually figure things out.

That is what a good evaluation is supposed to be. A thorough first conversation with someone who took the time to understand what is actually going on, before anyone decides what comes next.

What we offer

A psychiatric evaluation for adults who want clarity before a plan.

You have wondered for a long time

Something has been going on for years and nobody ever really checked. You want a real assessment so you can stop wondering.

A first symptom that will not settle

Mood, anxiety, sleep or focus has shifted and you want someone to look at the whole picture before anyone reaches for a script.

You want a second opinion

You have a diagnosis or a plan that never quite fit, and you want a fresh, thorough look from someone who will take the time.

Not sure medication is the answer

You want help figuring out what is going on, not someone who reaches for the prescription pad before they know your name.

Starting over after a provider left

A prescriber moved, retired or left and you want a thorough new assessment rather than a rushed handoff.

You want a clear, whole-picture answer

Before you decide anything, you want a thorough assessment and a straight read on what is going on and what your options are.

The entry points are different, but the outcome is the same. A clear, whole-picture answer from someone who took the time to know you, that you can get to this week.

Our approach

How a psychiatric evaluation works here.

We approach the assessment the way we approach all of our care, by looking at the whole picture rather than running down a checklist. Your history, your sleep, your body and the life around the symptoms, before anyone settles on a plan.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on and what you are hoping to understand. A real person from our team reviews each one before reaching out, so the first contact is not a portal and a wait.

2

Get matched

We pair you with a psychiatric provider whose specialties fit your situation, and you see the same provider through the evaluation and any care that follows. You are not re-explaining your history to a new face.

3

Sit down for the evaluation

First appointment in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. The evaluation is a real conversation with time to actually understand what is going on, and you leave with a clear picture and a direction.

The method

Why a whole-person lens.

A psychiatric evaluation is a conversation, not a brain scan. A provider gathers your history, what brought you in, how a normal day actually goes, your sleep, your body and any past treatment, because all of it shapes what is going on and what a plan should be, a view the National Institute of Mental Health echoes when it describes a thorough assessment as the starting point for figuring out what may help. Our psychiatric team carries a broad range of specialties, from mood and anxiety to the bipolar spectrum, ADHD and more, so we can pair you with a provider whose focus fits your picture.

The evaluation comes first. Medication is one possible option, considered only if it fits, after the assessment. Matched providers so the read fits your situation. Continuity so the same person carries it forward. When part of your picture calls for talk therapy, our anxiety therapy and depression therapy teams are in the same practice, so the two sides coordinate rather than running on separate tracks. When ongoing medication is the right next step, our psychiatry and medication management team picks it up.

An online platform can get you in by tomorrow and stay open late, and a hospital clinic can handle the most acute and complex needs. What we offer is the thorough first assessment in between, an unhurried, whole-picture evaluation that takes your insurance, gets you in this week, treats medication as one option rather than the destination, and keeps the same provider with you for whatever care follows.

Frequently asked questions

What adults ask before a psychiatric evaluation.

What is a psychiatric evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation is the first deep assessment before any treatment plan. It is a conversation, not a brain scan or a lab test. A provider gathers your history, what brought you in, how things actually go in a normal day, your sleep, your body and any past treatment or medication, so they understand the whole picture before anyone talks about what comes next.

Will you just put me on medication?

No. The evaluation comes first, and medication is one possible option among several, not a foregone conclusion. We look at the whole picture before anyone settles on a plan, and some people leave an evaluation with a direction that does not center on medication at all. Therapy is available alongside medication when that fits the work, with our anxiety therapy and depression therapy teams in the same practice.

What is the difference between a psychiatric evaluation and medication management?

An evaluation is the first deep assessment that helps figure out what is going on and whether medication fits. Medication management is the ongoing care that may follow once a plan is in place, with regular check-ins and adjustments. If your question is specifically about attention and focus, our adult ADHD evaluation page covers that.

How long is a psychiatric evaluation and will I be rushed?

The evaluation is a real conversation with time to actually understand what is going on, not a fifteen-minute med check. We would rather take the time to get the picture right than reach for a plan before we know you. You will not be hurried through a checklist.

Do you take my insurance for a psychiatric evaluation?

We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna. Much of Seattle psychiatric assessment is either hospital-based with long waits or cash-pay, so taking these carriers is one of the bigger differences when you are shopping around. We will confirm what your specific plan covers before your first appointment.

Do you offer evaluations online or only in person?

Both. You can meet in person at our Green Lake, Burien or Smokey Point offices, or by secure video anywhere in Washington with online psychiatry in WA, with the same provider either way. Telehealth lets you complete the evaluation from home with no change in who you work with or how the assessment is conducted.

What happens after the evaluation?

You leave with a clear picture and a direction. If a plan fits, you can start it, and if ongoing care is the right next step, the same provider can carry it forward through psychiatry and medication management or therapy in the same practice. The evaluation and the care that follows stay in one place.

Take the next step

You do not have to keep wondering what is going on.

A psychiatric evaluation is how you find out, and you can get in this week. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and matches you with a psychiatric provider who treats the assessment as the place to actually understand you, in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
