Does this sound familiar?

You have watched your child struggle for a while now.

Maybe the school keeps calling. Maybe the mornings are hard and the nights are harder, or the worry and the big feelings have started running the house. You called the hospital clinic and the waitlist is months long. You called a private prescriber and they only see adults, or they only take cash.

And under all of it is the question you keep turning over: is medication the answer for my child, and how would I even know. You are scared of getting it wrong. You have sat through appointments where someone barely looked at your kid before reaching for a plan, and that is the last thing you want.

What you want is someone who will treat your child as a whole person, take the time to actually understand them and bring you into every decision. That is what good child and adolescent psychiatric care is supposed to be, and it is what care here is built around.

What we offer

Psychiatric care for children and teens, with you in the room.

Anxiety and big feelings

Worry that has started running the house, meltdowns, or fears that get in the way of school and sleep.

Low mood that lingers

Pulling away from friends and the things they used to love, flat or irritable in a way that has lasted.

Focus and behavior at school

The school keeps calling. Focus, restlessness or behavior at home or in class that is hard to manage.

Already on a waitlist

You have been told to wait months for a hospital clinic and your child needs to be seen sooner than that.

Weighing medication for the first time

You want an honest, unhurried conversation about whether medication fits, with the reasoning explained.

A second opinion or a fresh look

You want to revisit a plan that has not changed in a while, or hear a careful second opinion.

The starting points are different. The outcome is the same: a careful plan that fits your child, made by someone who took the time to understand them and who brought you in at every step.

Our approach

How child and teen psychiatric care works here.

We look at the whole picture of your child, sleep, school, the body and the life around them, not a rushed appointment and a quick prescription.

1

Reach out

A short form or a call. We hear what is going on with your child, where it is hitting hardest, and what you have already tried. No months-long waitlist to clear before anyone talks with you.

2

Get matched

We pair your family with a psychiatric provider who works with your child's age and situation. Your child sees the same provider across their care, so nobody has to start from scratch each visit.

3

Start this week

The first appointment is an unhurried conversation with you and your child, in person at one of three Seattle-area offices or by secure video anywhere in Washington. Time enough to actually understand what is going on before anyone settles on a plan.

What to expect with medication

Medication is never the first reflex, and never the only option.

We look at the whole picture first, and any decision about medication for your child is made together with you, with the reasoning explained so you understand it and agree with it. Psychiatric evaluation and, when appropriate, medication are part of established pediatric mental-health care, the field whose standards are set by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. We point to that evidence base to describe how careful care works, never to promise a result for any one child.

If a medication is part of the plan, the same provider follows your child over time, revisiting how it is working and adjusting as your child grows. We frame medication as something that may help and is designed to support your child, never as a guarantee. Therapy is available alongside medication when that fits, so the two can support each other rather than running on separate tracks.

Frequently asked questions

What parents ask before starting child and teen psychiatry.

What does a child psychiatrist do?

A child and adolescent psychiatric provider evaluates and supports children and teens with mental health concerns and, when it fits, manages medication. At Counseling Services for Wellbeing this means a careful look at the whole picture, sleep, school and the life around your child, with you involved in every decision rather than a quick prescription.

Do you take my insurance for child and teen psychiatry?

Yes. We accept Kaiser, Premera, Regence, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna for child and adolescent psychiatry. We will confirm your child's coverage before the first visit so you know what to expect, and you can reach us by phone or through the form to get started this week.

How soon can my child be seen?

First appointments are usually available the same week. Pediatric psychiatry often means long waitlists elsewhere in Seattle, so being seen quickly is one of the reasons families come to Counseling Services for Wellbeing. You can request an appointment by phone or through the form on this page.

Will my child just be put on medication?

No. Medication is never the first or only conversation. We look at the whole picture first, and any decision about medication is made together with you, with the reasoning explained. Child therapy and teen therapy are available alongside medication when that fits. The goal is a careful plan you understand and agree with.

At what age do you see children for psychiatry?

Our psychiatric providers who work with children and teens cover a range of ages. The right provider depends on your child's age and situation, so we match your family with someone who works with that age band. Reach out and we will help you find the right fit.

Do you offer child and teen psychiatry online or only in person?

Both. We see children and teens for psychiatry in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices, or by secure video anywhere in Washington with online care. Many families find video visits easier to fit around school, and your child sees the same provider each time.

Can my teen get therapy and psychiatry in the same place?

Yes. We offer teen therapy and child therapy alongside psychiatry, so your family does not have to assemble a care team across separate practices. When therapy fits alongside medication, the team can coordinate, and you stay involved throughout.

Take the next step

You do not have to wait months or settle for an appointment where nobody really looked at your child.

Child and adolescent psychiatric care here starts with a real conversation, with you in the room, and your child can be seen this week. Counseling Services for Wellbeing accepts most major insurance plans, books first appointments the same week, and matches your child with a psychiatric provider who treats medication as one careful part of whole-person care decided together with you, in person at our Green Lake, Burien and Smokey Point offices or by secure video across Washington.
