I believe you're the expert on your own life. My role as a therapist is to listen, understand, ask questions, offer new perspectives and help you develop the tools to make choices that are right for you, not to tell you what you “should” be doing.

I especially enjoy working with teens and young adults. Adolescence and early adulthood can bring complicated relationships, family conflict, questions about identity, growing independence and major life changes. When I work with teens, I listen with the goal of understanding, not to look for a chance to point out where they're wrong. I want therapy to be a place where clients feel heard and respected, even when we're talking about difficult things.

I began my career in substance use treatment and I'm credentialed as both a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) and a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP). My experience includes inpatient and outpatient treatment as well as private practice, and I still enjoy working with people facing substance use concerns, especially outside traditional treatment settings. I approach substance use from a harm-reduction perspective and recognize that complete abstinence isn't everyone's goal. We can explore your relationship with substances honestly and without judgment, identify what you'd like to change and work toward goals that make sense for your life. When more support is needed, my experience in the field also lets me help you find treatment and community resources.

My work often draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I particularly like the CBT triangle: the idea that our thoughts, feelings and actions are connected, and that changing one can influence the others. I also draw from narrative therapy by exploring the stories we develop about ourselves. Together we can ask where those stories came from, how they've shaped the way you see yourself and whether they still fit who you are today.

I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, relationship difficulties, family conflict, substance use and major life transitions. Whatever brings you to therapy, you don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. We can start with where you are.
